Goat’s Story
I am Pete Kavanagh. A father, a friend, a runner, a student sponsor, a supporter, a coach, a fundraiser, and a believer that nothing is impossible. Dream Big. Do Bigger.
In 2019 I was not a runner. In a sliding door moment, I was introduced to a running event called the Bali Hope Ultra and its impact partner the Bali Children Foundation. That moment changed my life in so many ways I could never repay the debt, but it taught me the beauty of giving back.
I began running at the age of 59 with the First42k running program. I’m now 62 and in that short period of time I have run 106 half marathons, 9 full marathons, and at last count, 8 Ultra marathons (Ultra marathons have a habit of hiding from memory after the damage they can do to the runner). Only 4 days before writing this I ran a personal best marathon so I am still improving and ready for this challenge. My greatest joy however is running for a reason greater than myself.
Running has given me more than I ever imagined. Bali is dear to me as She too has given me friendships, love, adventure, and purpose.
One of the greatest privileges running has given me is introducing me to the Bali Children Foundation. Its impact on the poorer communities of Bali and its surrounding islands is profound. I sponsor a child’s education, I have visited schools and communities where the BCF do their incredible work, and I have witnessed some amazing success stories to come from these award-winning programs.
The challenge I have set for myself now is to run 400km around the coast of Bali in 6 days. This equates to 66km or a marathon and a half each day starting and finishing in Seminyak. The sole purpose of this run is to raise funds for, and bring attentions to, the Bali Children Foundation so it may continue its work in educating and changing the lives of children and communities who need our help.
Please join me, challenge me, cheer for me, and donate in whatever way you can. If this is by cash, sponsoring a child, or simply sharing what I am doing then we will indeed achieve something amazing together.
Pete,
